Mixed signals from the UK on DU weapons

The UK’s government has decided to opt for “plutonium disposal” i.e. the storage and then long-term geological burying of the 140 tons of “civilian” (high Pu240 rate) plutonium it owns.

It’s a bad signal for the dismantlement of their depleted uranium weapons. The DU depollution of the Dundrennan field has happened, see end of article – but existing data on the Storm Shadow missile is worrying, see there. The Martlet missile was recently shown in two versions, a cleanly plutogenized one and a crematory plutonium one (done with nitrogen). In addition to that uncertainty (albeit I receive information from someone in the entourage of the Prime Minister that the Storm Shadow was a DU missile, it could be crematory now… based on usual patterns see earlier under the Biden admin in the US, and usual conformation of the UK to that), the UK AEA has chosen to foster pure nuclear fusion with a budget of £410 million, indicative of the persistence of nuclear-free delusions in the UK or perhaps of the will to reconvert the produced tokamaks into crematory tokamaks, which would be consistent with the crematory Martlet.

Crematory Martlet. Human shape still visible on the right of the plume horizontally, head on the right.

Plutonium rich in Pu240 is excellent for antitank arrows thanks to the spontaneous fission neutrons of Pu240. This is one use that’s dropped by this policy. Secondly, the depleted uranium of DU weapons can be plutogenized more easily with some Pu239 starting up the subcritical cores involved. This can have both civilian (electricity production for instance) and military (preparation of more good antitank tips for instance) uses.

It seems that there is a “lock-in syndrome” of the policy that has been fostered in Ukraine starting from Dec. 2021, i.e. the depleted uranium curtain. Here’s a hint of optimism nevertheless : Dundrennan shows a visible bettering in 2025 with re-growth of plants from the inside, similar to what was shown in this peer reviewed article. But no clear exposure of cleanly plutogenized weapons has been carried out (except for one Martlet, while two explosions were shown to be crematory) yet. It’s nevertheless possible that shuriken atoms (the lowly plutogenized U238) in the crematory plutonium version be intended at covering radar emissions. In my opinion, losange shaped charges are better through melting down the enemy radars (instead of simply blurring them) and there is zero need to use shuriken atoms militarily.

Some greening reappearing within a tree is a good indicator

Some more indications that a correct reemergence of nature is happening.
